What if you don’t have Chatgpt PRO?
Here’s the situation with ChatGPT Pulse as it exists right now — and this applies if you’re on ChatGPT Plus or are using the free version:
📌 Availability of Pulse
As of the latest rollout:
ChatGPT Pulse is currently only available to Pro subscribers (the $200/mo plan). Pulse is being tested and previewed on mobile (iOS & Android) first.
Plus and free users do not yet have access to Pulse today but don’t stop reading yet. Find out below how you can still get personalized morning content/news on your existing plus plan or free.
OpenAI has indicated they intend to expand Pulse to Plus and even free accounts sometime in the future after the initial Pro preview, but there’s no exact date yet.
📱 What You Can Do in the Meantime
If you want a similar experience on ChatGPT Plus/Free without upgrading to Pro, you have a couple of options:
- Use ChatGPT Tasks + Memory as a “daily feed hack.” You can set up a scheduled Task inside ChatGPT to generate a custom briefing each morning based on your interests — mimicking what Pulse does.
Example:
“Every day at 8am, give me a curated digest of relevant updates based on my interests and recent ChatGPT use.”
This won’t run automatically in the background like Pulse, but it will give you a personalized brief on command.
How to Set Up Your Chatgpt Experience
- Enable Memory and Chat History Make sure these are turned on in Settings → Personalization so GPT understands your preferences over time — which makes any custom briefing you ask for more tailored to you.
- Use your Plus plan’s model (like GPT-5.2) to generate curated summaries when you ask (free versions can use GPT 5.2 for a limited time each day so use it in the morning to get your news).
You can simply ask:
“Give me a personalized morning briefing based on my recent chats and interests.”
It works the same as Pulse but it is not running a deep search over night. If you’re not in a hurry, request a deep search while you start your coffee.
Since neither the Plus or free plan push updates automatically, pair it with a habit trigger:
Choose one:
- Morning tea ☕
- Opening your writing notebook
- Opening your phone
- Sitting down at the kitchen table
Open ChatGPT → paste prompt → get your digest. (check your sidebar for a blue dot which is your reminder prompt.)
Improve your content over time
Pulse works off memory — you can simulate that by occasionally prompting it:
“Add this to my ongoing interests list…”
Example:
- new publishing project
- recently published fantasy books
- what happened in congress today
- upcoming concerts or events
- results of yesterday’s olympic events
- last week’s NFL scores
🗓️ Future Pulse for Plus
OpenAI plans to roll Pulse out to Plus users down the road once the initial preview stabilizes, so you won’t necessarily have to be on Pro to get it — it’s just not enabled yet.
